Land Sale
Deer Valley Unified School District is asking voters to approve the sale of a 19-acre parcel near 83rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road. This land, donated decades ago, is steep, landlocked, and largely unbuildable due to hillside ordinances. It holds no educational value for the district—but it does hold financial value right now, thanks to nearby development.
Selling the land now could yield $4–$4.7 million for the district—funds that can be used for long-term capital needs. These funds cannot be used for salaries or classroom supplies. By law, the proceeds would need to be used for capital projects such as:
· Facility improvements
· Safety upgrades
· Infrastructure improvements
A ballot initiative is required to sell this property. The district has already allocated funds for a maintenance and operations (M&O) budget override vote, which will be included on the general election ballot later this year. This will give voters the chance to voice their opinions on the sale of the 19-acre parcel.
Make Your Voice Heard
The Maricopa County School Superintendent has set a deadline of 5:00 p.m. on August 8 to submit public arguments for or against the sale. These arguments will appear in the official voter information pamphlet for the November 4, 2025, general election.
This will be a mail-in ballot only. There will be no polling places, although there will be ballot drop offices.
Make voters aware that there will be an M&O override initiative on the ballot along with the Land Sale.
